Things should soon be getting back to normal for Jim Thorpe residents affected by two recent water main breaks in the borough.
Borough Manager Maureen Sterner said Tuesday both breaks, which occurred in the “Heights” section of the borough have been fixed, but a boil water notice remains in effect.
“We are required to have the water tested twice — the day after the leak was fixed (Tuesday) and then the day after that (Wednesday),” Sterner said. “We need two consecutive tests that show no coliform bacteria in order to lift the boil water advisory.”
The first break occurred Sunday night on Cherry Avenue and the second took place Monday afternoon near Center Avenue and Cedar Avenue.
Sterner encouraged Jim Thorpe residents to sign up for the borough’s “Swift 911” program, which alerts them when events like a water main break happen.
“We use the program for emergency situations such as the water main breaks we experienced yesterday,” she said. “However, we also use it for many other items including notices regarding parking instructions during snow emergencies, notice of a change in garbage collection for the week whether due to a holiday or some unforeseen circumstance, road closures and projects and other community items.”
There is no charge for this service. The quickest way to register is on the borough’s website at www.jtborough.org.
“Residents may also complete a registration form here at the office or call us and we’ll complete the form for them,” Sterner said.
Residents may choose to receive phone calls on a landline or cellphone, text messages and/or email. They can choose one or all of the options.
