Carbon County row office salaries

Positions and salaries in the row offices of Carbon County were established by the Carbon County Salary Board when it met on Jan. 3 for its annual reorganizational session.

The board consists of the three commissioners (Wayne E. Nothstein, Tom J. Gerhard and William J. O’Gurek, and Controller Robert M. Crampsie, as well as the elected officeholders on matters that pertain to their offices.

They include Recorder of Deeds Emmett McCall, Prothonotary Joann Behrens, District Attorney Jean Engler, Sheriff Anthony Harvilla, Clerk of Courts William McGinley, Register of Wills Jean Papay, Treasurer Ronald Sheehan and Coroner Robert Miller. Gregory Mousseau, the county’s chief public defender, by law, participates in the voting for public defender’s office positions as well.

Clerk of courts: officeholder, William McGinley, $60,699; one first deputy, $28,792.40 per annum; one second deputy, $18.95 per hour; one bench warrant clerk, $11.05 per hour; one clerical specialist, $10.84 per hour; two clerical specialist, $10.52 per hour; and one solicitor, $1,300 per annum.

Bureau of collections: one director, $39,858 per annum; one collection clerk II, $11.72 per hour; one collection clerk II, $11.05 per hour; one part-time automation clerk, $9.54 per hour.

Controller: officeholder, Robert Crampsie, $66,699; one accounting manager, $77,386.40; one first deputy, $37,892.40; one second deputy, $19.33 per hour; one solicitor, $3,200 per annum; and one retirement board secretary, $6,000 per annum.

Fiscal/data processing: one fiscal/data processing supervisor, $57,766.80 per annum; one fiscal/data processing assistant, $21.31 per hour; and one fiscal/data processing technician, $11.72 per hour.

Coroner: officeholder, Robert Miller, $28,704; one chief deputy coroner, $7,210 per annum; 12 deputy coroners, $75 per investigation and $150 per transport; and one solicitor, $1,300 per annum.

District attorney: officeholder, attorney Jean Engler, $179,299; one office administrator, $35,417.20 per annum; one chief county detective, $24.68 per hour; one county detective, $15.55 per hour; one legal secretary II, $14.13 per hour; one secretary II/district attorney, $12.68 per hour; one part-time legal secretary, $11.16 per hour; one full-time assistant district attorney, $63,028.07 per annum; two full-time assistant district attorneys, $57,997.28 per annum; one first assistant district attorney, $44,036.90 per annum; one second assistant district attorney, $43,163.75 per annum; one third assistant district attorney, $35,000 per annum; one special assistant district attorney, $1; one part-time victim/witness coordinator, $16.04 per hour; and one part-time victim/witness coordinator, $13.43 per hour.

Prothonotary: officeholder, Joann Behrens, $60,699; one first deputy, $41,059.20 per annum; one second deputy, $19.51 per hour; one clerk/PFA coordinator, $12.31 per hour; one automation clerk, $12.19 per hour; and one solicitor, $1,300 per annum.

Public defender: one chief public defender, attorney Gregory Mousseau, $57,133.91 per annum; one first assistant public defender, $48,584.35 per annum; one assistant public defender, $39,392.81 per annum; one assistant public defender, $35,000 per annum; one full-time assistant public defender, $57,963.70 per annum; one full-time assistant public defender, $53,560 per annum; one public defender office manager, $13.02 per hour; and one legal secretary III, $15.73 per hour.

Recorder of deeds: officeholder, Emmett McCall, $60,699; one first deputy, $42,278.60 per annum; one second deputy, $20.09 per hour; one coordinator of records/indexer, $13.58 per hour; one part-time coordinator of records, $10.52 per hour; and one solicitor, $1,300 per annum. The board also abolished a temporary clerk’s position in the Recorder’s office.

Register of wills/clerk of orphans’ court: officeholder, Jean Papay, $ 64,012; one first deputy,$28,792.40; one second deputy, $14.13 per hour; one coordinator of records/genealogy/ancestry researcher, $12.43 per hour; and one solicitor, $1,300 per annum.

Sheriff: officeholder, Anthony Harvilla, $60,699; one chief deputy, $51,979.20 per annum; one chief real estate clerk, $12.55 per hour; one civil process clerk, $11.05 per hour; three special deputy sheriff, $15.25 per hour; 11 special deputy sheriff, $14.81 per hour; one special deputy sheriff trainee, $14.53 per hour; 13 special deputy sheriff trainee, $14.10 per hour; one part-time security officer, $13.18 per hour; one part-time security officer, $12.43 per hour; one part-time security officer, $12.07 per hour; one part-time security officer, $11.05 per hour; and one solicitor, $1,850 per annum.

Treasurer: officeholder, Ronald Sheehan, $60,699; one first deputy, $42,278.60 per annum; one second deputy, $15.43 per hour; one part-time fiscal assistant, $11.49 per hour; one part-time licensing clerk, $10.84 per hour; one part-time licensing clerk, $10.52 per hour; and one solicitor, $1,300 per annum.

Sheriff association: one lieutenant, $21.22 per hour; two sergeants, $18.04 per hour; five deputy sheriffs, $17.51 per hour; and two deputy sheriffs, $16.45 per hour.
