A 27-year-old Bethlehem man who was driving a vehicle that crashed at 2:19 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 4045 Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township is facing DUI charges. Police said a 27-year-old Palmerton man who was with at the time also fled the scene.
State police at the Lehighton barracks responded to the crash and learned a Subaru Impreza operated by the Bethlehem man was traveling south on Forest Inn Road at a speed too fast for conditions when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It went off the roadway and struck a PPL utility pole and continued down a small embankment and struck a garage/building.
Police said the operator and passenger who left the scene were later apprehended. The Palmerton Police Department assisted state police.
Police said they found a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia on the front seat of the vehicle.
After his apprehension, the driver was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and alcohol and was taken for a blood test.
Neither occupant of the vehicle was injured.
