Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 11:59 a.m. on Saturday along Route 54 in Shenandoah.
State police at Frackville said Joseph M. Elliss, 55, of Mahanoy City, was negotiating an uphill right curve while eastbound and Victor A. Portes Liriano, 52, of Shenandoah, was westbound negotiating a downhill left curve. Troopers said Elliss’ 2010 Chevrolet Traverse slid on the snow-covered road and entered Liriano’s lane of travel. The Traverse hit Liriano’s 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on.
Both drivers were injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pottsville Campus. Both vehicles sustained severe damages.
Troopers cited Elliss for driving at an unsafe speed.
Troopers also reported investigating a one-vehicle crash at 1:51 p.m. on Saturday along Interstate 81 in Kline Township, Schuylkill County. A 17-year-old female from Hazleton was driving a 2000 Infiniti southbound when the vehicle traveled onto the west berm and struck a ditch, where it came to rest.
The teen was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.
Troopers reported investigating a second crash on I-81 in West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, on Saturday at 9:20 a.m. Troopers said Chinemerem E. Ikedichi, 27, of Darby, Delaware County, was operating a 2003 Toyota Sequoia northbound when he traveled into the median and struck a rock embankment, with the Sequoia then rolling over and landing on its wheels facing south in the median.
Ikedichi was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus. Two passengers, a boy, 2, and a girl, 1, were not injured and were in child safety seats. The Toyota had to be towed.
