State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a phone scam that involved an elderly woman from Auburn, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said the woman received a phone call from a woman named Amy Meisner, stating that the elderly woman’s granddaughter had been in a crash involving an undercover police officer. The person calling claimed she was a public defender and advised the victim to purchase $4,000 worth of Walmart gift cards as bail money, then send the cards’ validation codes to her via telephone. Troopers did not indicate if the victim purchased the cards.
