A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday on a drug charge.
Justin Edward Oppelt, 25, of Nesquehoning, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 3 to 12 months in the county prison on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He previously pleaded to the charge.
At the start of the proceeding Oppelt pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct for an incident on Aug. 1 at his residence which police labeled a domestic in nature. He was placed on probation for a year on that count, consecutive to the drug charge.
Oppel, who is an inmate in the county prison on a pending probation violation, told Serfass he will try to get into an inpatient rehabilitation program for a drug addiction problem.
He told the court, “It’s worth a shot.”
Serfass also ordered Oppelt to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render a total of 100 hours of community service when paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
He was given credit for 97 days already spent in prison on the drug charge and paroled. He will not be released because of the pending probation violation charge.
