Customers report ‘tame’ shopping experience on Black Friday

A solid number of customers exited the Walmart store in Lehighton this morning with shopping carts full of various Christmas wares.

However, what seemed to be missing from their holiday shopping foray was the usual frenetic pace generally associated with Black Friday shopping.

To the contrary, things appeared to be rather tame as shoppers were seemingly unfazed on a day that often results in a maddening shopping blitz.

Steph Petrucci and Tom Schaeffer of Lehighton said they found this year’s experience to be rather peaceful for a change.

“I’m underwhelmed,” Petrucci said. “I’m glad to see it’s not chaotic as it was in past years.”

Despite starting their shopping at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Petrucci said they were headed to Tannersville to do even more shopping.

Likewise, Kim and Kerry Shoenberger of Palmerton said they were also pleased with the outcome.

“This was really smooth,” Kim said. “Not bad at all.”

Just across the parking lot, it was mission accomplished for Laurie Plunkett, whose shopping cart was full to the brim with toys.

“It’s kids’ day,” Plunkett said. “I’m getting for all my favorite little people.”

Of course, Plunkett, who lives in Washington Township, wasn’t about to do all that shopping without getting something for herself.

“I got stuff for me,” she said. “I can’t get everything and not get me anything.”
