Tammy Moyer, a part-time employee of Weissport, was appointed to fill a vacancy on Weissport Borough Council.
During a meeting Monday, Moyer was chosen by unanimous vote to fill the seat of Gregory May, who resigned two weeks ago from the council. Moyer will serve until Dec. 31 when May’s term would have expired.
Ironically, May received write-in votes during this month’s general election to continue serving on the council. It’s not officially known if May is a winner.
Moyer is an active member of the Weissport Recreation Commission, which holds various events throughout the year for children.
The next event is the Christmas tree lighting in the borough park at 5 p.m. on Dec. 2.
Featured besides the tree lighting will be a visit by Santa, lighting the Christmas lights throughout the park, treats from Santa and the serving of hot dogs and hot chocolate to children.
Brenda Leiby, a member the council, said the event is open to anyone — not just Weissport children.
Other business
• The council agreed to renew its garbage contract with County Waste and Recycling, Stroudsburg, for one more year. The renewal is the extension of the present contract at the existing rate, so it won’t have to be advertised for bids.
• The council said it plans to advertise its handicapped parking ordinance and burning ordinance at its Dec. 18 meeting.
• Tax collector Lynette Moyer said she was notified that she was re-elected to the position via write-in votes at the November election. She agreed to continue serving in that position.
