Harry Packer Mansion to host ‘Nutcracker’ inspired tours

This December, the Harry Packer Mansion, 19 Packer Ave. in Jim Thorpe will present The Nutcracker Holiday Displays Self-Guided Tour.

Bring your family and your spirit of wonder as you tour the historic parlors of the mansion in true holiday style. A display inspired by a different scene from “The Nutcracker Suite” will be displayed in each room.

In addition to the tour, the mansion’s Libation’s Lounge will feature a special Nutcracker-inspired cocktail menu. Adults can enjoy the Sugar Plum Fairy and The Nutcracker, and for the children, there will be Clara and Fritz.

Self-guided tour hours are from 4 to 9 p.m. Fridays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays beginning Dec. 1 and running through Dec. 17.

There is a fee. Children under 8 are free when accompanied by an adult.

Weekdays during the first three weeks of December, there will also be special tour hours available from 4 to 7 p.m. for all nonprofits. Nonprofit organizations will have an opportunity to raise money for their organization by collecting the tour admission money for their groups.

The more people you bring to the tour, the more money you will make. Please note that you must contact the mansion to make your tour reservation and also provide a minimum of four people to assist with your tour.

The Harry Packer Mansion overlooks the historic downtown village of Jim Thorpe. Its facade became the inspiration for Walt Disney World’s “Haunted Mansion.” However, the interior is anything but spooky.
