CCTI — Joint Operating Committee
The Carbon Career & Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee approved the following people to substitute for the 2017-2018 school year:
• Teacher/instructional aide/tutor Jason Capper; teacher/instructional aide James DeLotto, pending receipt of all mandatory paperwork; part-time integrated reading instructor Jennifer Gulick; clerical worker Diane Lager; and chaperone LeAnn Smale
Other approvals
• Kimberly Bittle was approved as an adult education instructor on an as-needed basis at the rate of $21 per hour, effective Nov. 17 through November 2018.
• JamiLynn McFarland was appointed assistant to the director of technology-student support services, effective Jan. 2, 2018, pending the receipt of all paperwork.
• Approved 55 CCTI students to attend a DECA District Competition at Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall on Dec. 7, at a cost of $1,550, in order to help defer student and chaperone/competition assistant costs. DECA adviser Stephanie Barto, instructional aide Sandi Kohutka, assistant adviser Scott Bartholomew, and approved chaperone William Stoudt to chaperone the event.
• Approved 53 students to attend the SkillsUSA district competition. Competitions will be held at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke on Dec. 15 and Jan. 4, as well as Toyota of Scranton on Dec. 19. SkillsUSA adviser Kevin Kuehner, assistant advisers Maritza Reinbold, Tammy Marshall, Chris Graver, and/or auto collision repair instructor Dennis Starry will chaperone the event. There is no cost to the committee for the competition.
• Approved 37 cosmetology students to attend a field trip to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia on April 9. Cosmetology instructor Lisa Walck, instructional aide Tammy Marshall, and approved chaperones will chaperone the trip.
• Approved two students to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program from May 17 to May 20 at a location to be determined for a cost not to exceed $620 to defer the cost of registration, meals, and lodging.
• On the recommendation of the administrative director and the business administrator, the board accepted three audit reports — for CCTI, Carbon County Area Vocational-Technical School Authority and Carbon County Area Vocational-Technical School Foundation — from Kirk, Summa and Company for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017. There were no findings in any of the audits.
• Approved transfers of $4,000 from the general fund to the yearbook activities account and $1,000 from the general fund to the National Technical Honor Society account.
• Director of technology Nate Rinda was approved to attend the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey from Feb. 12-14, at a cost of $627.54 to cover the cost of registration, lodging and mileage.
