Countywide reassessment extended one year in Monroe

The countywide reassessment of Monroe County that was originally scheduled to be completed in late 2019 has been extended through 2020.

Notices were sent to Monroe County taxpayers this week notifying them of the change that was agreed upon by the county commissioners in October.

“Tyler Technology came to us to request the extension,” said Cindy Treible, chief assessor for the county. “Most counties take at least three years to complete a reassessment, so it’s not unusual that Tyler would ask for an extension.”

Treible said there will be no increase in the cost of the assessment since Tyler requested the extension. Treible added that the company has encountered some issues with hiring people for data collection and in some cases their personnel have had issues with homeowners not allowing them on their property.

The notice states that data collection will continue throughout 2018, with preliminary assessments being mailed to property owners no later than March 2019.

Property owners will have an opportunity to file an information review with Tyler Technologies at that time.

Final assessments will be mailed no later than July 1, 2019, at which time property owners would have 40 days to file a formal appeal to the Board of Assessment Revision.

The new assessments will be reflected in the 2020 tax bills.
