John McEuen, the former member and founder of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, comes to the Mauch Chunk Opera House Friday at 8 p.m.
McEuen and his unique cast of iconic Americana string wizards share the music and memories of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s incredible 50-year career and the landmark “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” platinum album he initiated.
With narrative and music of early NGDB, McEuen will take patrons on an incredible journey — interwoven with Nitty Gritty favorites, hot bluegrass, rarely heard NGDB early classics, Carter Family music, all in a multimedia presentation that features archival footage — and some new classics from his new album, “Made in Brooklyn.”
Providing support is Caroline Doctorow, a chart-topping folk singer and songwriter, with a stirring voice that recalls the great folk singers of the ’60s. She is the daughter of the late, world-renowned author E.L. Doctorow.
McEuen will be doing an extensive meet and greet after the show, as he always likes to meet those who come to his shows. Any questions are welcome. Also, meet other original founding NGDB member, Les Thompson.
