An argument over drinking ended with a Tamaqua man in jail on Oct. 28.
Tamaqua Police were called to a home in the 300 block of Hazle Street at 12:45 a.m. for a domestic in progress, possibly involving a gun.
They found Michael D. Gazo, 36, in the backyard and a woman on the second floor of the home. There was no gun involved.
The victim said she told Gazo she would prefer if he didn’t drink alcohol in the home. That led to an exchange of words with Gazo grabbing her by the throat when she attempted to go to another room in the house.
The victim called 9-1-1, only to have Gazo snatch the phone from her hand. She fled upstairs, but he followed, pinning her against a bed rail. She managed to get free and fled downstairs, where she was able to grab her phone and discovered a dispatcher was on the line.
When Gazo saw her on the phone, he fled to the yard.
He was arraigned before duty District Magistrate Anthony Kilker on charges of reckless endangerment, simple assault and strangulation.
Bail was set at $15,000 straight cash, which he was unable to post. He was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.
