The Historical and Architectural Review Board issued a certificate of appropriateness for the installation of a replacement roof and two new low profile skylights for 238 E. Wall St. Homeowners Patrick and Hanna Conroy were represented at the Nov. 1 meeting by contractor Bill Adams from Mark J. Fisher Roofing.

HARB had no issues with the Velux 21-inch by 27 seven-eighths inch skylights for the back of the roof. The board approved the proposal only after Adams revised the choice of roofing shingles for the row house from black architectural shingles to GAF Slateline antique gray shingles or Certainteed Hatteras Outer Banks shingles. He agreed to follow the board’s recommendation of copper or lead-coated copper flashing and to install open valleys instead of the proposed closed valleys. Adams said he would rewrite the work order and ask his clients to sign off on it.

Fred Bonsall told the contractor the porch roof on the property that is not part of the current project can remain unchanged until the homeowners want or need to replace it in the future.

The vote was unanimous for the only agenda item for the month.

The Historical and Architectural Review Board meets the first Wednesday of every month to review all exterior changes proposed to buildings in the Bethlehem Historic District north of the Lehigh River. When a proposed project receives a certificate of appropriateness from the board, applicants must wait for City Council to vote on it before proceeding.
