A forcible entry was made into the Carbon County Courthouse in Jim Thorpe between midnight and 6:45 a.m. today. Entry was gained through a first floor window in the prothonotary’s office, after which the offices of the prothonotary and county commissioners were entered.
John Watkins of Nesquehoning, a night fireman, closed the building at midnight and checked the various offices and found everything to be in order.
The entry was discovered this morning by Howard Miller and Robert Stemler, voting machine custodians reporting for election duty.
Troopers John Kintzel and Ralph Cameron are heading the investigation of the break-in.
