State revokes personal care home license

EASTON (AP) — The state has revoked the license of a Pennsylvania personal care home after the death of an 84-year-old resident was ruled a homicide.

In the decision issued Thursday, the state Human Services Department cites “gross incompetence” and “negligence” on the part of Arden Courts of Old Orchard. The department also alleges an employee at the Bethlehem Township facility used “correction fluid” to alter notes related to Daniel Scanlan’s death.

A coroner determined Scanlan died of complications of blunt force head trauma April 4. The state’s report says Scanlan suffered a head injury days earlier after he was pushed by another resident.

The Northampton County district attorney says he will investigate the possible record tampering.

Arden Courts says they will appeal the state’s ruling.
