Police: Monroe man stole truck, ATV; caught in Indiana County

A Barrett Township man is in mounds of trouble with the law after Pocono Mountain Regional Police linked him to several thefts and burglaries this month in Monroe County.

Christopher Bella Miller, 20, is charged with two counts of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief and one count of burglary, criminal trespass and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

He was caught in Indiana County on Oct. 22 on a fugitive warrant and returned to Monroe County.

Police said the series of incidents began on Oct. 7 when they received a report of a burglary and the theft of an Arctic Car ATV from the Keiling residence on Upper Seese Hill Road in Canadensis. Police said they were told Mr. Keiling (no first name provided by police) assisted a man later identified as Miller as he was having trouble with his vehicle near the residence.

Keiling told police he invited Miller into his garage to help locate a battery and after the search was unsuccessful Miller left the garage. Keiling said he told Miller if he needed additional assistance he should simply knock on his door.

A short time later, police said, Miller was seen driving Keiling’s ATV. A check of the garage showed Miller broke into it and stole the ATV, resulting in police issuing a warrant for his arrest.

Police said on Oct. 9, they received a report from Joseph Stenson that his Dodge pickup was stolen from along Route 390 in Canadensis and that Miller was suspected to be involved in the theft. The same day, police received another burglary call, where an attempt was made to steal another ATV a short distance from the Stenson residence.

Three days later (Oct. 12), Dickson City Police recovered Stenson’s truck. Evidence in the vehicle showed the vehicle had visited the Pump ‘n Pantry in Nicholson. Detectives then obtained video surveillance from the store that showed Miller in possession of the pickup, resulting in the issuance of another warrant for his arrest.

He was eventually picked up 10 days later in Indiana County.
