Ernie, a Chihuahua toy poodle, missing since Sunday
A GoFundMe site has been set up for a dog that has been missing since Sunday.
The fundraising page has been set up for Madalyn Jucewicz’s 3-year-old Chihuahua toy poodle named Ernie, who was last spotted on Tuesday.
Jucewicz, who lives on Gilberts Hill Road in Lehighton, said Ernie has been missing ever since she dropped him off at a groomer in Palmerton at 10 a.m. Sunday.
She said about an hour or so later, she got a call to pick up Ernie. However, when she got there, Jucewicz said the groomer was nowhere to be found.
A little while later, Jucewicz said the groomer came running down from the woods just holding Ernie’s collar and leash, and said he slipped out of the collar and ran into the woods.
“She actually has a section of her yard fenced in, but she chose not to put him (Ernie) or walk him in there because she said there’s a hole on the one side of it,” Jucewicz said. “She should have still walked him in the fenced-in area by his leash.”
Since then, Jucewicz said a woman from the volunteer organization, Hound Hunters of NEPA, has come up and set up two live traps, and has been posting on her Facebook page as well.
In the meantime, Jucewicz said she’s set up fliers, gone to neighbors, and has been sharing all over social media.
Jucewicz said Kevin Major, her fiance, set up a GoFundMe page for a tracker dog from Pure Gold Pet Trackers, of Virginia.
The dogs are taught to sniff out where the dog has been, where it’s been hiding, and if it’s stuck, will know where it is, Jucewicz said.
“The saddest part of all of this is I have Crohn’s disease, and he was going to become my service dog,” she said. “He never leaves my side. I’m just heartbroken.”
Jucewicz said her family has five cats and an Australian shepherd Lab.
Just last month, the family lost its female Jack Russell, which it had for 16 years.
“So to have Ernie get lost, it’s terrifying, it’s awful,” she said. “We’re a huge animal family, we love our animals.”
Jucewicz said it’s getting a lot harder as each day goes on that Ernie isn’t back with his family.
“I’ve been pretty sick all week. I haven’t been able to sleep. None of us have been able to eat,” she said. “I feel like I’ve lost my child. He’s my heart and soul.”
Jucewicz said she continues to hold out hope that she’ll be reunited with Ernie.
“It’s getting cold out, there’s frost outside,” she said. “My heart just keeps breaking more and more every day.”
As of this morning, $550 has been raised since the GoFundMe account was set up Thursday afternoon.
The goal is to raise $3,000 through the website.
