Crews from PPL Electric Utilities were working this morning to restore power to almost 3,000 customers throughout the state. Of those, 60 customers are in Carbon County and 46 reside in Schuylkill County. Most of the outages are directly related to high winds overnight.
While the numbers of customers affected are small, the impact touches a much larger community as one of those 46 customers in Schuylkill County is Marian High School. Officials elected to cancel classes for the day as the restoration of service was estimated to be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Power was out due to “tree limbs on wires” according to the PPL website. The road to the school was closed this morning as crews worked to take care of the problem.
The affected customers in Schuylkill County include 19 in Rush Township, one in Schuylkill Township and one in West Penn Township.
Carbon County customers included one in Kidder Township and 59 in Lower Towamensing Township.
PPL officials remind the public that downed power lines can be dangerous as you can’t tell if a line is charged just by looking at it. Put safety first and stay far away from downed or low hanging power lines. Report downed lines or power outages to 1-800-342-5775 or online at www.pplelectric.com.
