Car strikes pedestrians in Thorpe; no injuries reported

A car jumped the curb Friday afternoon in Jim Thorpe, hitting several pedestrians but no injuries were reported.

At 3:50 p.m., borough police were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a runaway vehicle that struck pedestrians at the intersection of Hill Road and West Broadway.

Police said a Hyundai Accent driven by Jean Bruker, 85, of Nesquehoning, jumped the curb of the westbound lane of West Broadway and struck a pole, pedestrians and another vehicle.

According to the victim and witness statements, Madison Curry, 19, of New Jersey, was standing watching the band play at the front of the Opera House, when she was struck by the vehicle.

The vehicle then continued and hit the light pole, knocking Joseph Giglotti, 66, of Nesquehoning, to the ground.

Both victims were evaluated by Lehighton EMS and refused treatment.

Bruker said that she was distracted and hit the gas instead of the brake.

The vehicle was towed from the scene of the crash.
