Lehighton has a trio of seats to fill on its civil service commission after all three members resigned.
On a unanimous vote, borough council on Monday accepted the resignation of civil service commission members Jeffrey Bachman, president; Keith Schnell, vice president; and John Rupell, secretary.
In a resignation letter sent to borough council dated Oct. 3, the three members of the commission explained their decision to resign their appointments as a collective whole.
“As a volunteer commission, we have faced obstacles and frivolous challenges on a near consistent basis whenever we attempt to do something for the benefit of our police department and community as a whole. These challenges have proven to make it difficult for your current commission to adequately perform our necessary duties.”
The letter continues on to state, “In furtherance, the personal time expenditures necessary for proper action of the commission have become exorbitant to the commission members. As a result, the current commission does not feel that we are being effective in meeting the goals thrust upon us as members of the commission.
“Therefore, all members of the current commission to hereby regretfully resign our positions on this commission effective immediately. All prior unfinished business of your current commission has been resolved and/or canceled.”
Afterward, council unanimously agreed to advertise for three new members to fill the vacancies on the commission.
