A state police trooper from the Schuylkill Haven barracks on Thursday shot in the leg a man who twice threatened him with a compound bow.

Trooper Norbert Brennan, the investigating officer from the Jonestown barracks, identified neither the trooper nor the man who threatened him.

The 42-year old man emerged from a single family house at 109 N. Yohe St., Reinerton, Porter Township, during a domestic dispute.

Charges of attempted homicide/aggravated assault are pending.

Brennan released a report detailing the incident.

Troopers and local police responded to a domestic dispute at the house at about 1 p.m. Thursday.

A woman came out of the house, her head bleeding. Troopers lay her down on the front yard when a man came out, armed with a compound bow and arrow.

He pulled back on the bow and raised it at the trooper, who immediately fired his weapon as he sought cover.

The man went back into the house, then came back out. He again pulled back on the bow and raised the weapon at the trooper.

The trooper fired again, hitting the man in the leg.

Once the man and his weapon were secured, the trooper gave him first aid until emergency medical crews arrived and took him to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

The woman was also taken there.

Brennan said the investigation is continuing.
