Water outage in village of Hauto planned
Nesquehoning officials are making preparations for a planned water outage in the village of Hauto next week.
Borough council, on Wednesday at its committees workshop, discussed an email from Nesquehoning Hose Company fire Chief John McArdle, which informed the board that the Lansford/Coaldale Joint Water Authority, which services the village of Hauto and Lake Hauto Club, will be shutting off the village’s water system for up to 24 hours so repairs at a pump station on Tippet’s Road could take place.
“In order to make repairs, it will require the system to be shut down until repairs can be completed,” McArdle wrote.
Tobias Krajcirik, superintendent of the water authority, said Monday morning that the outage is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 24-25, beginning at 8 a.m.
He said that tankers will be hooked up to keep the village with potable water and arrangements with the fire companies to complete this are in the works.
McArdle said in his email to council that Industrial Road, Park Avenue and Ametek can serve as fill sites for the water.
Nesquehoning residents who live in the affected zone are asked to make proper provisions since they may experience low water pressure or no water at all.
Sanitation
Council also discussed what it will do about recycling in the borough now that the recycling containers from Solomon Container have been removed.
Solomon terminated the contract last month because it decided to not service the area anymore.
Since then, residents have been asked to place all recyclable items in the trash since no new recycling company has been found.
Council said that the only quote that came in was nearly triple the price the borough had been paying Solomon.
The sanitation committee plans to meet to see what options are available. A request for a quote on curbside recycling by Tamaqua Transfer has also been made.
Council reminds residents that the blue recycling bins they received years ago when Carbon County first started the blue bin recycling program cannot be used for garbage.
Tamaqua Transfer told the borough it will not pick up garbage at a resident’s home if the trash is in the blue recycling bin.
