Two businesses get green light for plans

Two area businesses that are looking to develop in Franklin Township and Palmerton received green lights after a few minor issues are resolved.

On Tuesday, the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended conditional plan approval to Yong Zhong and Yu Shan Chen of Palmerton; and Wayne A. and June Redline of Franklin Township for their proposed land development plans.

Zhong and Shan Chen are looking to build a 1,140-square-foot addition of one retail store and two offices totaling 91,750 square feet at the former IGA Market at 493 Delaware Ave. The building already contains a 3,170-square-foot restaurant and a 2,270-square-foot second floor apartment.

Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, said that there are minor issues with the proposed plan, including financial security and developer’s agreement not provided to Palmerton for approval.

He said that all plan review comments/recommendations of the Palmerton borough engineer should also be addressed before final plan approval.

The Redlines are proposing a land development at 860 Interchange Road. Plans call for constructing three commercial buildings and parking areas on 4.906 acres. The site already has a commercial building on the property, including the couple’s flooring business.

Meixell said that there were some items that the planning commission had not received as of the meeting, but noted that some of the items had already been addressed in Franklin Township.

Other plans

The planning commission also made recommendations on three additional plans:

• Michael P. and Sherri L. Kalavoda received plan approval for a proposed lot line revision at 1260 N. Broadview Drive, Jim Thorpe. The plans call for combining two lots to create a 2.0743-acre lot.

• Natalie M. Pargas received plan approval for a proposed subdivision, lot line adjustment and lot annexation at Forest Inn Road and Hill Road in Towamensing Township. The plans call for subdividing 30.764 acres into a 10.237-acre lot and a 20.527-acre lot. The new 20.527-acre lot would then be conveyed to the Palmerton Rod and Gun Club as a nonbuilding lot.

• Kenneth G. and Shirley R. Mertz received conditional plan approval for a proposed lot line revision at 137 McKuen Way, Towamensing Trails, Penn Forest Township. The plan calls for combining two lots to create a new 1.994-acre lot.
