Giant Food Stores announced it is partnering with the Food Allergy Research & Education Teal Pumpkin Project to help Halloween shoppers become more aware of food allergies and ensure safe choices for children.
“We want every child to have a safe and fun Halloween, including those who may have food allergies,” said Sarah Glunz, lead nutritionist for Giant. “Join the Teal Pumpkin Project by putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep to let parents know that you are giving out safe nonfood treats.”
The Teal Pumpkin Project raises awareness of food allergies and promotes inclusion of all trick or treaters. Giant is offering customers a selection of candy alternatives available for $3 and under including jewelry, stationery, stickers and toys.
“Launching the Teal Pumpkin Program was a way for us to make sure all children feel included during Halloween,” said Lois A. Witkop, Chief Advancement Officer at FARE. “It really puts parents’ minds at ease when they see the teal pumpkins around their neighborhood.”
