Two defendants ready for trial in Carbon County court last week instead entered guilty pleas after negotiating a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office.
Holly Marie Getz, 37, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of simple assault for an incident on April 16 at 2645 Hahns Dairy Road, in Lower Towamensing Township.
State police at Lehighton responded to the residence for a reported disturbance.
Troopers said Getz assaulted Patricia Dempsey, causing a cut to her nose. A summary harassment charge was dropped in a plea agreement.
Sentencing was deferred.
Cody Charles Buskirk, 26, of Bath, Northampton County, pleaded to one count of driving under suspension-DUI related.
He was arrested on Dec. 15, 2014, along Route 209 by state police at Lehighton. He was originally charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, which was dropped in the plea agreement.
Judge Joseph J. Matika sentenced him to serve 30 to 60 days in jail, but must serve the full 60 days and pay fine of $500.
Buskirk also pleaded to two summary motor vehicle code violations and was fined a total of $300 and costs.
Buskirk was given credit for 60 days already served and paroled.
