HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The state Senate has approved legislation that would dedicate a bridge to honor a western Pennsylvania police officer slain in the line of duty.
The (Washington) Observer-Reporter reports the Senate unanimously approved a proposal to rename the Central Avenue Bridge in Canonsburg to honor Canonsburg Police Officer Scott Bashioum.
Bashioum and Officer James Saieva Jr. were both shot when they responded to a domestic dispute call last year. Officials say 47-year-old Michael Cwiklinski shot the expectant mother of his child, 28-year-old Dalia Sabae, and the officers before killing himself. Saieva survived.
Legislators say the bill also pays tribute to Sabae and all of the other officers involved in the tragedy. The proposal now heads to the Gov. Tom Wolf.
