Detectives in Monroe County filed additional charges against a funeral director accused of sharing photos of the dead.
The District Attorney’s office said 27-year-old Angeliegha Stewart remotely tried to delete four incriminating photos from her phone after detectives seized it.
She allegedly accessed the photos from another device while police were investigating her for sharing photos of the dead.
Detectives said they worked with Stewart’s employer, Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, to identify and contact all of the 16 families whose loved ones may have been photographed by Stewart.
She was charged Sept. 22 with 25 counts of tampering with evidence in connection with sharing photos of the dead.
Police said they accessed her phone on Sept. 29, and found that four photos had been moved to the trash folder.
The photos allegedly included her taking selfies in front of the dead, and close ups of deceased person’s faces.
They charged her with four counts of tampering with evidence, a misdemeanor.
She is set to appear in court Nov. 14.
Stewart’s license is still active, and no disciplinary actions have been reported, according to the State board of Funeral Directors.
