Carbon County Judge Joseph J. Matika on Friday admonished a young Palmerton mother to work harder to beat her drug addiction for her children’s sake.

Katelyn M. McFarland

, 25, of Palmerton, pleaded to possession of drug paraphernalia and giving false identification to police on Aug. 1. She was charged by Summit Hill police.

McFarland told Matika she has been addicted to heroin since age 13. She has two children, ages 9 and 3, who are in the custody of others. She has no contact with them.

“You need to take your addiction more seriously, or you may never see your children again, nor will they see you,” Matika told her.

McFarland said she is trying to get into a rehabilitation program.

He sentenced her to 59 days to 12 months in jail, with credit for 59 days she has already served on the paraphernalia charge. He also ordered her to perform 50 hours of community service, and imposed zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.

Other pleas

Matika also accepted pleas from 10 others. In addition to their punishments, all were ordered to pay court costs and fees.

Khalid I. Brockman

, 35, of Strutters, Ohio, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia on May 25, 2016.

He was charged by state police at Fern Ridge along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

Brockman

was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for a traffic stop.

Matika sentenced him to 65 days to six months in jail. Brockman was given credit for the 65 days he’s already served, and will be placed on parole for four months.

Matika also ordered him to perform 25 hours of community service.

Corey Daldos

, 20, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, glass pipes, on May 20. He was charged by Lansford police at Water and Springgarden streets.

Matika sentenced him to six months on probation and to perform 25 hours of community service and to have a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Devon Marley

, 25, no address listed, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, a needle, wax bags and a scale, on April 9.

He was charged by Lansford police in the 200 block of W. Water St.

Marley told Matika he had finished a rehabilitation program. The judge sentenced him to six months on probation and to perform 25 hours of community service and to have a drug and alcohol evaluation.

He imposed the same sentence for the false identification charge, to be served concurrently.

Nicholas B. McGlothlin

, 26, of Tamaqua, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana on Nov. 10, 2016. He was charged by Lehighton police, who found a needle, wax bags, and a spoon and a small amount of marijuana during a traffic stop.

He also pleaded guilty in a second case to receiving stolen property on July 20, 2016.

In that case, he sold video games that had been stolen by another person to a store to trade them for cash.

He was charged by Lansford police.

Matika sentenced McGlothlin to one year on probation and to perform 50 hours of community service on the theft charge. He imposed the same sentence on the paraphernalia charge, to be served concurrently.

Jennifer E. Mustacchio

, 42, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia — pipes with methamphetamine residue and needles — on May 2, 2014. She was charged by Nesquehoning police.

Mustacchio told Matika the items were not hers, but she chose to plead to the charges anyway.

Matika sentenced her to six months on probation and to perform 25 hours of community services and have a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Matthew V. Petrucci

, 35, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded guilty in three cases, all of which concerned fraudulently returning merchandise to Walmart in Mahoning Township on July 15.

Mahoning Township police charged him with two counts of identity theft and theft.

He was also charged with driving while his license was suspended. In each case, he attempted to return items he did not purchase for cash.

Matika sentenced Petrucci, who admitted to having a drug problem, to pay a total of $337.05 restitution to Walmart.

Petrucci asked for state prison to be able to get into a drug-treatment program.

In the first case of identity theft, Matika sentenced Petrucci to 90 days to two years in state prison, 75 hours of community service, to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and comply with any recommendations, and imposed zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.

The sentence for the second case of identity theft was the same, with 45 days to 90 days probation for the driving while his license was suspended, to be served concurrently.

In the theft case, Matika sentenced him to one year on state parole and 75 hours of community service.

Bryan P. Smith

, 39, of Berwick, Columbia County, was charged with possession with intent to deliver on Jan. 14, 2016, by state police at Fern Ridge along interstate 80 in East Side Borough.

Police found seven bundles of heroin in a backpack in his car after stopping him for tinted windows.

Matika deferred sentencing pending a presentence investigation.

Ariel S. Stevens

, 20, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to corruption of a minor on Nov. 1, 2015. She was charged by Lansford police. The crime was committed in the 200 block of West Patterson Street, and Stevens had drugs with a juvenile present.

She had been accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, but that was revoked after she failed to comply with the terms.

Matika deferred sentencing.

Jevonne I. Torres

, 22, no address given, pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal trespass on Aug. 4. He was charged by state police at Hazleton. Torres said he was homeless at the time. He broke into a garage and two homes in Banks Township.

Matika deferred sentencing.

Terence L. Moore

, 30, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine in the parking lot of Redner’s Market, Nesquehoning, on June 30.

He was charged by Nesquehoning police.

Matika deferred sentencing pending a presentence investigation.
