Band festival
The Land of the Running Water Marching Band Festival, hosted by the Tamaqua Blue Raider Marching Band, will be held Oct. 7 at the Tamaqua Sports Stadium.
Gates will open at 6 p.m., with the competition slated to begin at 7 p.m.
This year’s participants are the marching bands from Mahanoy Area, Panther Valley, Pottsville Area and Shenandoah Valley High Schools.
Business women
The Tamaqua Business and Professional Women’s Club is celebrating its 70th year of serving the greater Tamaqua Community.
Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m., at the Tamaqua Station Restaurant.
The next meeting will be Oct. 10.
Reservations are due by Oct. 1.

Walk with a Doc
St. Luke’s University Health Network’s popular Walk with a Doc series returns to Tamaqua on Oct. 12.
Led by Dr. Joanne Calabrese, the 1-mile walk will also include free blood pressure screenings and breast cancer awareness information. It will start at 5:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s Internal Medicine Office, 120 Pine St., Tamaqua.
Walkers will be able to go at their own pace and have their health questions answered by a community physician.

Soup social
The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Oct. 7. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.
The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.

St. Peter’s Union
The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. service this World Wide Communion Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. The service will include a congregational meeting and a collection for the Hurricane Relief Fund.
Also on Sunday, an all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held at 10:15 a.m., the Confirmation class will meet at 11:15 a.m. and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.
New member Sunday will be observed on Oct. 8.
Calvary Evangelical
The Rev. Phillip Sabas will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a Bible study session and singalong will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The next prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 4.
