Schuylkill County veterans clinics to be relocated

Veterans clinics in Pottsville and Frackville will be relocated next year to 1410 Laurel Blvd., Pottsville.

A job fair for employee candidates is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Ramada, 101 S. Progress Ave., Pottsville.

Employees at existing clinics under the previous contractor will be invited to apply for positions.

The clinic will employ physicians, clinic managers, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical/vocational nurses, phlebotomists, telehealth technicians and medical assistants.

The clinic is expected to open Feb. 1, 2018, but construction progress may change that date.

Until the new, 9,400-square-foot clinic opens, veterans will continue to receive treatment at the current locations.

The clinic is expected to serve more than 2,500 veterans in its first year.

The new clinic will provide primary care, women’s health, mental health, laboratory and point-of-care testing services, referral for specialty, radiology and pharmacy services.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Lebanon VA Medical Hospital has awarded a contract to STG International Inc. for a contractor owned and operated community clinic.

An existing building at the new site will be demolished and renovated by Miller Bros. Construction, Schuylkill Haven.

The work began on Sept. 1.

The previous contract was with Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street. Federal regulations required a new contract, Chief Communications Officer Douglas A. Etter said.
