Man tasered at football game

A Tamaqua man faces felony charges after causing a commotion at Friday night’s football game in Tamaqua.

Steven Wayne Schickram, 38, of 340 Clarke St., was charged with risking a catastrophe, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and dangerous burning in connection with several incidents on Friday.

First, firefighters and police were dispatched to Schickram’s home for smoke in the structure, where they found clothing on fire in the basement. The cause was listed as careless smoking.

At 8:10 p.m., an officer saw Schickram stumbling on the sidewalk next to the Tamaqua Sports Stadium and went to speak with him. He was met with loud screaming, yelling and cursing. As this continued, the officer told Schickram he would be cited for disorderly conduct if he continued. When another officer arrived as back up, Schickram took a swing at him. He was told to place his hands on the fence, but refused.

As Schickram continued to resist, an officer used his Taser to bring him into compliance.

At the police station, Schickram continued to cause a commotion, threatening to sue police.

He was transported to a Pottsville hospital for treatment.

West Penn Township Police assisted at the scene.
