The 23rd annual Jim Thorpe Halloween parade will make its way down through the streets of the east side of the borough on Oct. 29.
As in the past several years, the event is being sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Lions Club.
This year the Jim Thorpe Fire Department will be honored as the grand marshal of the parade.
Lions member James Trainer said, “We wish to honor the volunteer first responders not only of Jim Thorpe but all of those in surrounding communities as well.”
All groups, organizations and businesses are welcome.
The parade will start, rain or shine, at 4 p.m. with line time being at 3 p.m.
It will begin at Jim Thorpe High School, march down Center street to Ninth Street, down Ninth Street to North Street, down North Street to Fifth Street, over Fifth Street to Center Street, and down Center Street, eventually ending at Third Street. The reviewing stand will be located at the Sargent building in the 600 block of North Street.
After the parade is over, buses will shuttle participants back to Memorial Park for refreshments and awards.
The awards will be for best float, best group, and most original with first, second and third place awards in each category.
Anyone interested in participating in the event can pick up a registration form at the Jim Thorpe Borough office located at 101 E. 10th St. Deadline is Monday.
