September 16, 1972 — Mike McHale and Mike Clewell both have big games running the football as Jim Thorpe rolls to a 33-6 victory over Weatherly. McHale carries 14 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns, while Clewell finishes with 18 carries for 106 yards and two scores. Clewell reaches the end zone from nine and 18 yards in the first half to help the Olympians, coached by Barry Hackenberg, build a 14-0 advantage. McHale collects TD runs of two and 56 yards in the second half to secure the win. Thorpe also receives a 1-yard scoring run from George Lazorick. The only touchdown by the Wreckers came on an 83-yard kickoff return by Todd Warner.
