Carbon County court - drug cases
Eight defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Friday. Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:
Noah J. Sweitzer, 37, of White Haven, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on March 25 by Weatherly police along Lauderburn Street following a traffic stop.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Kayla Marie Leibowitz, 28, of New Ringgold, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on Dec. 31, 2016, by Lansford police in the area of the Panther Valley Mall.She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.She is currently an inmate in the Schuylkill County prison on other charges.Gene Alvin Hayes, 29, of Brooklyn, New York, pleaded to one count of possession of marijuana. He was arrested on July 30, 2016, by Weatherly police in the parking lot of the Weatherly elementary school along Sixth Street.Matika sentenced him to serve seven to 15 days, but he must serve the entire 15 days. He began the jail term immediately.Tabatha Marie Murphy, 28, of Exeter, Berks County, formerly of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on April 24 in the 800 block of East Patterson Street by Lansford police. She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Timothy James Daub, 47, of North Catasauqua, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Sept. 4, 2013, by state police at Lehighton in the area of 240 Clarence Drive, in Towamensing Township.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Michael Heckert, 28, of Hazleton, pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on the marijuana charge on March 9, 2016, following a traffic stop along Plane Street by Weatherly police.He was arrested on the possession count on Oct. 20, 2016, by Nesquehoning police for an incident at the county prison. While being searched before being placed in the prison, officials found illegal drugs on him. A charge of contraband/controlled substance into the prison was dropped in a plea bargain.On the possession count Matika placed him on probation for nine months and ordered him to render 35 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.On the marijuana charge he was fined $100 and costs.Michael William Wiener, 21, of Nesquehoning pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and false reports to law enforcement.He was arrested on the drug count on Feb. 23 by Lansford police. In exchange for the plea, a more serious drug charge of possession with intent to deliver was dropped.He was charged with the false ID count on Feb. 12 by Nesquehoning police in the area of 199 Stock St. Police responded to a crash in which three people fled the scene. Wiener was one of the three, but when confronted, he at first denied any knowledge of the crash.On the drug count Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to render 50 hours of community service. On the false ID charge he was placed on probation for six months, consecutive to the first count, and he must render an additional 25 hours of community service.Andres Dar Vega Coellar, 18, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of possession of marijuana. She was arrested on June 13 by Weatherly police along Second Street following a vehicle stop. Matika imposed a fine of $200 and costs.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
