September 8, 1973 - Jim Thorpe's defense comes up with some big stops to preserve a 14-6 victory over Cardinal Brennan. The Olympians, coached by Barry Hackenberg, thwart three scoring opportunities by the Chargers deep in their territory. Dru Herman, who scores Thorpe's first touchdown on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, recovers a fumble in the Brennan red zone to stop one drive and makes a tackle at the 2-yard line to help end another scoring chance. Barry Guth and Stan Strohl also come up with key tackles inside the 10. Thorpe's Mike Clewell accounts for his team's other score, which comes on an 11-yard run.
