Palmerton football stadium opens Friday night

Palmerton Area School District officials will cut the ribbon on a renovated athletic stadium Friday before the first sports event on the newly installed artificial turf playing surface.

The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with Palmerton's varsity football home opener against Saucon Valley set for a 7 p.m. start.Parking is limited on site and Tuesday and Wednesday's rain led the district to make additional transportation arrangements.Leon George will provide busing from two locations for the game.Buses will run to the stadium at 6:10, 6:30, and 6:50 p.m. from the Palmerton community pool lot at 1255 Third St. and from the Leon George bus lot on Delaware Avenue. The buses will drop off in front of the high school.The buses will make return runs beginning with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter and run through 30 minutes after the game concludes. Return riders will board the bus in front of the high school. The return buses will drop off at the pool lot on Third Street, the community festival in the borough park, and lastly the bus garage."We have also been graciously permitted to utilize the cemetery adjacent to the stadium for parking," Superintendent Scot Engler said. "Security will be on hand and we ask that the utmost respect be demonstrated while parking in this area."
