Cyclist hurt in Schuylkill crash

A Locust Gap man sustained serious injuries in a collision between a car and a motorcycle at 9:09

a.m.Thursday on East Main Street in Hubley Township, Schuylkill County.State police at Schuylkill Haven said William J. Birster, 60, the motorcyclist, was thrown from the cycle while not wearing a helmet. He was flown from the scene to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.The crash occurred as a 2003 Suzuki Aerio operated by Elizabeth T. Augustine, 64, of Sacramento, pulled out of a driveway on Main Street in front of the motorcycle, which was traveling west at the time.Police said the cycle struck the front left corner of the car. Birster was thrown off the bike. He landed in the eastbound lane, approximately 25 feet west of the point of impact.Augustine, who was uninjured, was charged with a violation relating to entering or crossing a roadway.
