Family and friends will gather in Summit Hill Thursday to mark International Overdose Awareness Day, and remember a young woman who lost her battle with addiction.
The public is invited to a vigil for Chrissy Erbe at 6 p.m. Thursday at Ginter Field in Summit Hill. Erbe, a 2013 Panther Valley graduate, passed away Jan. 15, 2016.She loved tie-dye and helped others who were dealing with addiction.The vigil is one of more than 300 events being held in the United States and worldwide on Thursday to mark International Overdose Awareness Day.Erbe's loved ones held a ceremony on Aug. 31 last summer in Coaldale, and they plan to continue the tradition this year in Summit Hill.The event will include speakers from Carbon Monroe Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission, and Safer Streets for Tamaqua's Little Feet.Tie-dye T-shirts remembering Chrissy will be available for order. All proceeds will be donated to Carbon Monroe and Pike Drug & Alcohol Commission in her name.
