A 25-year-old Hazleton woman died in a two-vehicle crash at 3:12 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of intersection of Route 924 and the Interstate 81 northbound on-ramp in Hazle Township.
State police at the Hazleton barracks said Marleny Caba Guzman was pronounced dead at the scene by Luzerne County Deputy Coroner Jeff Stock.Police said she was driving a 1998 Hyundai Tiburon southbound on Route 924 and was in the left lane of travel approaching the intersection when she failed to stop at a red light. The vehicle continued through the intersection and struck the front passenger side of a 2018 Freightliner driven by Ronnie Lee Speegle, 62, of Tyrone, Georgia.Speegle's vehicle, a U.S. Express tractor-trailer, was northbound on Route 924 at the time and was approaching the Interstate 81 ramps. Police said the operator had a green light and was proceeding left through the intersection, attempting to enter the northbound on-ramp, when the collision occurred.Police said a passenger with Guzman, Johanna Marmolejos, 23, also of Hazleton, was injured in the crash. She was transported to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital by the APTS EMS unit. Police said she is listed in stable condition there.Police said neither Guzman nor Marmolejos were wearing seat belts. Speegle and a passenger, Brian Lee Speegle, 44, of Griffin, Georgia, were wearing seat belts and were uninjured.The two vehicles sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene, police said.
