With an eye toward the future, Lehighton plans to address an anticipated uptick in traffic flow along a growing intersection.
On a 6-0 vote, borough council on Monday agreed to bring in a traffic engineer to study Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard. Councilman Jared McEvoy was absent.Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said there has been discussion and observations of the traffic flow on Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard."Speed limit and pedestrian improvements are a concern, along with additional analysis of other changes are needed," Beckett said. "I will need to discuss the options with a traffic engineer."Beckett said that before she reached out to any professionals, she wanted to make sure council was on board.She added she will be seeking proposals in the near future.Dependent on the cost, this may be a 2018 budget item, Beckett said.The Lehighton Outdoor Center - Home of Jim Thorpe River Adventures and Northeast PA Kayak School, will be located at 123 Lehigh Drive just off Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.An outdoor center for rafting and biking, complete with a kayaking school, the over-11,000-square-foot facility expects to be totally operational by fall.
