Two crashes snarl traffic in Carbon

Two people were injured Sunday following two vehicle crashes in Carbon County.

The first crash involved a motorcycle and an SUV in the southbound tunnel of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the motorcyclist was injured and was reportedly lying on the roadway. Traffic was backed up for miles as a result of the crash with many exiting at the Mahoning interchange.

A second crash occurred Sunday afternoon along Route 248. The crash occurred at the Parryville intersection with one person being injured.

The accident involved an SUV and a pickup pulling a trailer.

Due to the motorcycle accident in the southbound tunnel of the turnpike, traffic had backed up for miles. Many motorists exited the turnpike at the Mahoning interchange traveling south on Route 209 then west on Route 248 encountering the crash.

No word on the conditions of either motorist was available.

State police at Lehighton are investigating.
