Stolen vehicle from Schuylkill ends up in crash in NY

A truck stolen in Schuylkill County ended up involved in a three-vehicle crash in New York state.

State police at Frackville said a 2011 Ford tow truck, owned by John Grutz, 67, of Mahanoy City, was stolen from the Grutz Interstate Exxon station, located near the intersection of Route 54 and Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township, at 10 p.m. July 12.Troopers said on Tuesday state police in New York responded to a three-vehicle crash at 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of routes 22 and 295 in the town of Canaan. The investigation revealed that Jonathan Kimball, 31, was the operator of the tow truck which struck a Chevrolet Blazer after Kimball failed to stop for a red traffic light. The tow truck was the one stolen in Pennsylvania. Kimball attempted to flee the scene and subsequently struck a third vehicle that was parked unattended nearby.Kimball and his passenger, identified as Steven P. Nance, 46, then fled the scene on foot. Nance was located a short time later.About 12:30 p.m. the same day, police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of routes 295 and 22 in Canaan. A K-9 unit and helicopter were pressed into service and Kimball was later apprehended.Both men were arraigned on various criminal counts and jailed in New York pending further action by Pennsylvania authorities.
