A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Wednesday after he allegedly threatened to burn down his house with his wife and children inside.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Russell J. Brown, 50, of 4 Kate Ave., Renninger’s, North Manheim Township, has been charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.According to troopers the incident occurred between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. at Brown’s home. Brown returned home from an appointment at a methadone clinic in West Reading and became involved in an argument with his wife. His wife said she told her children to go into the home and lock the door and told her husband to take the vehicle and leave.Brown proceeded to leave but walked back down to the home and grabbed a large can of gasoline, troopers said. Brown then began pouring the gasoline on the right side of the outside of the home and in the grass. Brown, according to troopers, said if he could not get into his own home, he was going to burn it down.Troopers arrived on scene a short time later and found Brown smoking a cigarette and, when searched, found a pack of matches in his pocket.Mrs. Brown told troopers that after her husband poured the gasoline he told her he was going to get a gun and threatened to kill the family. She later told her children to get out of the house because her husband was throwing gas on it and threatening to burn it down.Brown was arraigned before on-call District Judge Christina E. Hale, of Frackville, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $25,000 straight cash bail
