Prison briefly evacuated due to heavy smoke

GETTYSBURG (AP) - Officials say a Pennsylvania prison was briefly evacuated over the weekend after a large amount of smoke in the kitchen.

WHP reports that Adams County emergency dispatchers said six to eight inmates were cleaning ovens Saturday.Dispatchers said the cleaners weren't properly rinsed from the inside of the ovens before they were turned on, and the kitchen became smoky, so the prison was evacuated.Adams County emergency services arrived to monitor the situation, and fans in the kitchen eventually cleared the air.The station said several people were monitored for smoke inhalation but no medical transport was needed.
