Lehighton Council

The Lehighton United Veterans Organization presented the council and borough manager with certificates of appreciation this week.

The certificates were presented for the help given to veterans of Lehighton.The borough recently worked with the UVO on the relocation of the Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Monument and the new War at Home Monument, as well as the designation of Lehighton Veterans Memorial Park.In other news:• Council voted to advertise vacancy on the Lehighton Water Authority. The vacancy comes after the passing of board member Carlos Teets in May.• Council approved a resolutionauthorizing submission of DCED Multimodal Transportation Grant in the amount of $371,065 for upper park connectivity Improvements. The grant will help provide perimeter sidewalks and curbing, crosswalks, interior path restoration connecting to sidewalks, ADA ramps, crosswalks, stormwater improvements, trees and landscaping, signs, benches and trash cans surrounding the Upper Park in the town center.• The council voted in favor of either scrapping a 1988 GMC dump truck deemed beyond repair or placing the vehicle in the COG auction at the discretion of the borough manager/public works.- Benjamin Winn
