Suspect on loose in Mahoning burglary; one caught in Tamaqua

A Mahoning Township burglary suspect fled police and has been caught in Tamaqua tonight. Another suspect is still on the loose.

Police are currently investigating a burglary/retail theft/hit and run at the Verizon store on Route 443.

Two male suspects fled the scene in a vehicle heading west on Route 443. While entering the highway they struck another vehicle, according to the Mahoning Township Police Facebook page.

The suspect vehicle was spotted by West Penn Township Police and stopped on Route 309. Information received at this point indicates the passenger in the car pointed a firearm at the West Penn officer.

The male then fled into the woods. Police are searching the area off of 309 near Country Tile. Use caution if in the area and report any suspicious persons immediately by calling 911.

The driver of the vehicle fled the traffic stop and headed into Tamaqua where he was stopped by police and taken into custody.
