Ready your breakfast and eat hearty, because the Spartan Race returns to Blue Mountain Resort this weekend.
The adventure race series visits the resort in Lower Towamensing Township today, Sunday and next Saturday.The Spartan Race is known for challenging racers with mud, fire and electricity, all on top of a long-distance run.Today, competitors will take on the middle-distance Spartan Super - a 8-10 mile race that includes more than 25 obstacles and rugged terrain. This year's race is part of Spartan's U.S. Championship Series and will be nationally televised on NBC Sports.According to Spartan Race, the Blue Mountain Course was designed to challenge the elite racers who travel around the country in pursuit of championship points."You'll run in and out of dense forest as you climb the mountain, facing obstacles designed to test the elites. If you're strong and determined enough, you'll be rewarded with amazing views from the top - and then your challenging descent begins," the website reads.On Sunday, as well as next Saturday, competitors will take on the shorter Spartan Sprint race course. The sprint race is just 3-5 miles, but still includes more than 20 obstacles.Kids will also get a chance to take on a special Spartan course set up for them, with obstacles just like the adult versions.The televised Super race airs at 10 p.m. Aug. 30.For those who want to see the action up close, there will be a chairlift to the summit running throughout the race. Admission to the event for spectators is $25 (cash only) and parking is $10 per car, $20 per van, and $50 per bus or RV.Registration for the events is available at
