A woman who was wanted for selling a fatal batch of heroin has been arrested, according to police.
Kayla M. Leibowitz, 28, of Third Street, was arrested on Monday in Pottsville.Leibowitz was picked up by Pottsville City police after it was reported she was seen leaving a rehabilitation center in the city, Coaldale Police Chief Keith Krapf said.Leibowitz was arraigned on the charges and held on $100,000 bail.She faces felony charges including drug delivery resulting in death, and delivery of a controlled substance, in connection with the death of Coaldale resident George Dougherty.Leibowitz admitted to police in that on March 8, Dougherty came to her house to purchase heroin. Text messages showed they had been discussing the sale of heroin for two days prior.She told police she didn't know whether she or her boyfriend sold Dougherty the drugs.Dougherty, 25, was found dead at his home on March 9.The Schuylkill County Coroner's Office determined the death was caused by acute fentanyl toxicity.Leibowitz is being held at Schuylkill County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.A preliminary hearing has been tentatively set for July 11 in Tamaqua, at the office of Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer.
