A Palmerton woman faces charges after stealing a repossessed vehicle from her father and then trying to sell it.
Paige Kromer, 18, faces charges on two counts of theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, unsworn falsification to authorities, false reports, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, and fraud insolvency.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Adam Shimer of the borough police department:On May 16, Shimer received a report from one of the victims that his 2003 Hyundai Coupe was stolen from the 200 block of Alley E.The victim said that Kromer, his daughter, was in possession of the vehicle, but failing to make its payment to Blue Ridge Auto Center.He said that Blue Ridge Auto Center had contacted him in an effort to repossess the Hyundai, however, the vehicle was unable to be located.The victim said that he contacted Kromer, who said that the car was repossessed.Shimer spoke with Kromer and was told that she was unaware of the car's whereabouts.On May 22, Shimer received an anonymous tip of a 2003 Hyundai for sale in the borough.Once on location, Shimer spoke with the third victim, who said that he was contacted by Kromer through Facebook messenger offering the Hyundai for sale as a junk vehicle.He said that he had negotiated with Kromer and ultimately purchased the vehicle for $100 to be used as an "enduro car."He said that on May 16, Kromer contacted him requesting to either paint the Hyundai another color so that it would not be recognized, or to purchase it back.On June 1, Kromer came to the police department for an interview, and explained that she was under the impression that the car was repossessed, as she had not made payments on it in months.Kromer is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 10:30 a.m. July 26 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
